Promoting literacy and the use of library:  literacy is the ability to read, write, speak and listen. This allows you to communicate effectively and efficiently. Literacy includes the capacity to read, understand and critically appreciate various forms of communication, including spoken languages, printed text and digital media (DES, 2011,p.8). In many countries, literacy is highly valued and believed to have some consequences, such as social mobility and economic growth (Roberts, 1997, p.45). Literacy is very important, especially now with the advancement of technology and the internet with its constant evolving of information and how it is processed. This can also be a hindrance to some who lack the ability to use the technology and process the information, even with the basic knowledge, not everyone can sift through and interpret the materials presented. To support Children and Adult literacy development is by encouraging them to make use of the community resources for information such as schools and local libraries. This can be done by creating a space where people can get together.

Ireland is famed for its art of good storytelling, where stories are passed down from generations. The idea of creating a piece of jewellery with objects from the story can be used as a remembrance that has been done but not in an elaborate way. For example a fisherman goes fishing and kills a shark and uses one of its tooth to create a jewellery by creating a hole in it and inserting a twine and tie around his neck as a remembrance of his experience. This story can then be passed on with the necklace in future.

To promote literacy and the use of library we created this makerspace to encourage people from the community to create bookmarks, earrings, necklaces, bracelets by reading. People create things they know about, you read a book then you use ideas from the book to create a jewellery which I guess is the fun part of reading. This will encourage the people (adult and children) to want to read more, reading require books and you get books in the library.
